Embark on a unique cycling experience that connects the literary heritage of Danilo Lokar and Janez Svetokriški. From Ajdovščina, we will explore the picturesque cultural and natural landscape all the way to the medieval village of Vipavski Križ. Along the way, we will discover the life and work of Danilo Lokar, listen to excerpts from his literary works, and uncover the stories that connect Ajdovščina and Vipavski Križ.

The trail is suitable for both conventional bicycles and e-bikes, with a special focus on accessible experiences. Visitors with reduced mobility can enjoy the trail using an electric tandem bike adapted to accommodate wheelchair users, providing a safe, comfortable and enjoyable way to explore the route. This allows visitors with limited mobility to experience the literary and cultural heritage of the Vipava Valley as well.

Meet Your Local Guide

We will meet in Ajdovščina, where your local guide will introduce you to the itinerary and share the story of Danilo Lokar. We will prepare the bicycles and set off on our journey.

The Lokar Trail

The cycling route is approximately 14 km long and connects Ajdovščina with Vipavski Križ. Most of the route follows quiet roads and paths through the natural and cultural landscape. Along the way, we will learn about Lokar’s life and literary work and listen to selected excerpts from his writings.

From Ajdovščina to Vipavski Križ

The route takes us to the medieval village of Vipavski Križ, where Lokar’s story connects with the heritage of Janez Svetokriški and the Capuchin monastery. We will discover the significance of this historic village and its special place in the cultural and literary heritage of the Vipava Valley.

Literature in Nature

Along the trail, benches equipped with QR codes allow visitors to listen to audio recordings of excerpts from Lokar’s works. In this way, literature comes to life in the landscape that inspired the writer, transforming the cycling experience into a unique multisensory cultural experience.

An Experience for Everyone

The Lokar Literary Trail has also been designed with inclusive tourism in mind. Visitors with reduced mobility can experience the trail using an electric tandem bike adapted to accommodate wheelchair users. The bike provides safe and comfortable access to key points along the route, allowing visitors to discover the cultural and natural heritage of the area in a sustainable and active way.

End of the Experience

After exploring the Lokar Trail and Vipavski Križ, we will complete our cycling experience and return to Ajdovščina. The experience is suitable for conventional bicycles, e-bikes, as well as an adapted electric tandem bike for visitors with reduced mobility.
